Arusha National Park

Arusha National Park, located in northern Tanzania, is a hidden gem that offers a unique safari experience. This compact park showcases a diverse range of landscapes, wildlife, and natural wonders.

One of the highlights of Arusha National Park is Mount Meru, the second-highest peak in Tanzania. Trekking to the summit of Mount Meru rewards adventurers with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes. The park is also renowned for its rich wildlife. Explore the lush montane forests, home to a variety of primates, including the black-and-white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys. Spot giraffes gracefully wandering across the grassy plains, zebras grazing, and buffalo herds meandering near the Momella Lakes.

Highlights

Arusha National Park offers a more intimate and off-the-beaten-path experience compared to other larger parks in Tanzania. Its proximity to Arusha town makes it easily accessible for day trips or as a starting point for a Tanzanian safari adventure.

Wildlife in Arusha

Arusha National Park is renowned for its primate populations. Keep an eye out for the black-and-white colobus monkeys and blue monkeys that inhabit the lush montane forests. These playful and agile primates can often be observed leaping through the trees. While big cats are rare in Arusha National Park, leopards are occasionally spotted, although sightings are less common. Other wildlife that can be encountered in the park includes hyenas, dik-diks, mongooses, and a variety of bird species.

When to visit

The dry season, which runs from June to October, is generally considered the best time for wildlife viewing. The wet season, from November to May, brings lush greenery and is a great time for birdwatching.
